HIV Counselling

Living with HIV or supporting someone who has been diagnosed can bring up a wide range of emotions. At the Sexual Health Centre Cork, we provide a safe, confidential space to talk through these experiences with a trained professional.

Talk with a Counsellor

Our HIV counselling service is free of charge and delivered by an accredited, experienced counsellor. We offer one-to-one consultations tailored to your needs. Sessions are available for:

  • Individuals living with HIV

  • Partners

  • Family members

What Can Counselling Help With?

Everyone’s experience of HIV is unique. Counselling provides the opportunity to talk openly and without judgment about whatever is on your mind. Common areas that people explore in counselling include:

  • Coping with a new diagnosis and the emotions that follow

  • Understanding treatment and living well with HIV

  • Concerns about relationships, intimacy, and disclosure

  • Dealing with stigma or discrimination

  • Anxiety, stress, or low mood connected to HIV

  • Supporting a partner or family member living with HIV

  • Looking at practical supports and coping strategies for day-to-day life

    The Sexual Health Centre’s HIV Support Worker is here to offer guidance and understanding. This may include help with navigating healthcare services, accessing treatment and medication, and linking you to community resources.

    Positive Cork is a peer-run group for people living with HIV who provide emotional support and encouragement to each other. Contact Positive Cork today to get details of monthly get-togethers.

  • Talk to Someone who's been through this

    Positive Now is a network of people ready to give one-on-one help as people who have experienced the problems you may be currently experiencing.
