PART-TIME COUNSELLOR AND PSYCHOTHERAPIST

Overall Purpose of the Post

The Sexual Health Centre was founded in 1987, as Cork AIDS Alliance, to provide support to people living with HIV. Since 1997, the Sexual Health Centre has been a leading organisation supporting and promoting sexual health in Ireland. The Sexual Health Centre is now seeking an exceptional individual to join our counselling and psychotherapy team on a part time basis. The counselling team provides a professional, effective and reflective response to individuals living with HIV, individuals experiencing a crisis pregnancy and/or individuals experiencing concerns around their sexual health.

Key Responsibilities

The Counsellor and Psychotherapist will:
 Provide services within the code of ethics of the Sexual Health and Crisis Pregnancy Programme and which comply with legislation, the ethos of the Sexual Health Centre and best practices in the field
 Provide a professional non-directive, non-judgemental counselling service for people affected by HIV
 Provide a professional, non-judgemental pregnancy counselling service for people affected by crisis pregnancies and their significant others, where appropriate
 Facilitate a support group for people living with HIV
 Be knowledgeable about parenting, adoption and abortion
 Ensure that the rooms used for this service are maintained in accordance with Health and Safety and good practice guidelines
 Engage in Sexual Health Centre helpline provision
 Provide telephone counselling, skype counselling and support as required
 Maintain appropriate records in accordance with legislation and information requirements of the Sexual Health Centre and funders
 Engage in supervision, management and staff meetings as required
 Liaise and network with other service providers as appropriate
 Participate in any national initiatives as appropriate
 Participate in training and future development of the service

Experience and Knowledge

 Counselling qualification of at least degree standard.
 IACP/IAHIP accreditation or equivalent.
 A minimum of 3 years’ counselling experience.
 Knowledge and experience of pregnancy, sexual health, sexual issues and/or HIV counselling is desirable.

Terms and Conditions

Salary: Salary will be dependent on experience and qualifications
Contract: One-year, fixed term contract Hours: 21 hour working week. Due to the nature of the post, evening or weekend work may sometimes be required.
Holidays: Holiday entitlement is 24 days pro rata annual leave, plus public holidays.

Appointment to this role is subject to Garda vetting.

The Sexual Health Centre Ltd is now seeking an exceptional individual to join our counselling team on a part time basis. The counselling team provides a professional, effective and reflective response to individuals experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. The counselling team provides a professional, effective and reflective response to individuals living with HIV, individuals experiencing a crisis pregnancy and/or individuals experiencing concerns around their sexual health.

Contract: This is a contract of agreement for services.
Hours: 8 sessions per week. Due to the nature of the post, evening or weekend work may sometimes be required. The Counsellor will report to the Management team.
